Columbia College

Recognized by the National Science Foundation for its innovative curriculum, Columbia College promotes scientific inquiry and creative problem solving skills for all students.

With the advantage of small classes and individual attention from expert faculty, our science majors gain a solid foundation in the biological and physical sciences. Classes range from introductory courses in biology and chemistry through advanced courses such as molecular cell biology and physical chemistry. In addition, students have ample opportunities for field study in such venues as the Savannah River Site and Research Triangle in North Carolina.

Biological and Physical Sciences program is housed in the Barbara Bush Center for Science and Technology. This exceptional facility contains state-of-the-art chemistry, physics, biology, geology, and computer labs, a tissue culture laboratory, six student/faculty research laboratories and a greenhouse. The Center also features a computer lab where students can access personal storage drives. Numerous classrooms are equipped with campus technology that allow students and faculty to present information in a variety of ways.

Premedical Support

The Premedical Program at Columbia College is designed to guide students in their preparation for admission to medical, dental, or veterinary schools, as well as other health related graduate professional programs. Each year, approximately 15 to 20 students graduate from the premed program.

Columbia College offers NINE National Science Foundation scholarships for women! Applicants may qualify for up to $7,500 per year.

After Graduation

Science majors from Columbia College have a variety of options after graduation. Some choose to become laboratory scientists or science teachers while others continue their education in graduate, medical, dental, pharmacy and nursing school.
