Serious Young Writers Workshops for Girls

The Columbia College Pearce Center Writing Program is pleased to announce the 2017 Serious Young Writers Workshop Series for High School Girls. Now in its fourth year, the program has grown to include six sessions spanning three genres:  short fiction, poetry, and children's literature.

These workshops are for girls currently in grades 8-11 (grades 9-12 in the fall of 2017) who self-identify as writers, who engage in writing in spare hours, and who go above and beyond on writing assignments: in short, serious young writers. If you know a high school girl who fits this description, encourage her to apply to attend one or more of these Summer 2017 sessions.

Columbia College offers these workshops to take talented young writers to the next level. Through personalized writing instruction, collaborative revision, and time to write each day, students will polish their creative work and learn tricks of the writer’s trade. In addition to working closely with seasoned writers, they will meet other published writers during each workshop and hear stories of their writers' journeys.

Don’t let the talented writers in your life miss out on this opportunity!

Here is what each young writer can anticipate:

  • Extensive feedback on drafts throughout the week.
  • A professionally printed paperback book containing work produced by the participants of all six workshops (to arrive late summer or early fall).
  • A Serious Young Writers Workshop Series t-shirt.
  • A certificate suitable for framing.
  • Snacks and drinks each day.
