SUMMER is here!!

So, the countdown to summer is finally over. It is here!! Summer began for me on May 1. I was one of those people who had one last exam on Friday. Exam schedules here are different than high school. We do not have class on exam days and when you're done with your exam, you get to leave. You find your class time and then right next to it is the date and time of your exam. Some days, you might have two exams in one day, or one, or even none. It just depends.
Anyway, Fun Day was on April 23. It is always the Thursday before exams. It is a day for us college students to relax and have fun before the stress of exams. We had a DJ, an inflatable Bungee Run, an inflatable Obstacle Course, Putt Putt, airbrush tattoos, cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones. We danced some and played some games. It was hot, but fun. It is the last event that CCAB sponsors each year.
College really does tire you emotionally and academically. You get so tired of studying that you think your brain cannot hold any more information. However, getting that degree will show that your studying was well worth it, especially in this economy. Finding jobs is harder than ever. Everyone's home now from school and probably looking for jobs. I hope that everyone has a great summer and look forward to seeing you in the fall!!!

The end is near!!

Wow! What a crazy last few weeks it's been!! I have been so busy with meetings, classes, homework, etc. The semester ends on May 1st and it's crunch time now. Projects, essays, and tests pile up during this time. I had 4 tests in one week!! It doesn't happen that often so it wasn't too bad.
Spring Formal was March 21st and it was sooo much fun!! The theme was Venetian Carnival and it was held at Seawells. This is the only formal that we have so it was fun dressing up! I had fun dancing and hanging out with my friends. You can bring a date to formal (you just have to buy them a ticket) or you can come by yourself or with friends! Tickets are not expensive at all and definitely within a student's budget.
We had our last Open House of the semester on March 28. It was successful, even though it was pouring down rain again! I strongly suggest that you get some rainboots if you decide to come here because there were huge puddles on campus that day. Some of those puddles looked like little rivers. We got absolutely soaked, but it was worth it! The food was great, especially the oreo pie! It is the best dessert on campus, besides the ice cream of course!
We don't get a lot of days off in college like you do in high school. We get some holidays off, fall break, Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break, and summer break. We get Good Friday off this week and that is the last holiday until summer! We don't need as many days off because we get longer breaks. We get 4 weeks of Christmas break and almost 3 months of summer break. Thanksgiving break is 3 days long. We also have fall break which is 2 days long and spring break which is a week long. Then, we get some holidays off like MLK day and Good Friday. I really do like having the longer breaks off of school instead of just having all these random days off of school. Everyone is counting down the days until summer now! I hope that everyone is staying warm on this rare cold day in April. Let's hope that it warms up again soon! Thanks for reading!

Spring Break has come and gone...

It has definitely been a crazy last month! Dad's Night went really well and my dad and I really enjoyed it. The food was great and the comedian was hilarious!
Open House was February 28 and that went well as well. However, it was pouring down rain! We all got wet from the rain! It was great meeting all of the girls and I hope to see you all at Columbia College next year!
Midterms went well. I just don't like the fact that everything is due either right before spring break or right afterwards!
Anyways, Spring Break was awesome!!! It was really nice having a break from school and forgetting about reality for a while. A lot of people go home for the week and/or go on vacation. Everyone has to leave the residence halls unless you get a break pass that allows you to stay on campus. You have to go through residence life to get one.
School started back today and it was hard for a lot of people to go back. You start getting used to being on break and it is hard to go back. However, we only have 7 more weeks of school left (including exam week)! There are a lot of things to look forward to after spring break: Spring Formal is on Saturday, Open House is next week, Good Friday Holiday, Fun Day, then the start of summer break!
Spring Formal is similar to prom. We all get dressed up in our formal dresses and have a night of dancing and fun! This year, it is being held at Seawells, which does a lot of banquets and other events. Tickets are not expensive at all.
Fun Day always occurs the Thursday before exams. I will tell you more about that later, so keep checking for updates!
I hope that everyone is staying dry on this rainy day!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Whew! It has been a very busy last few weeks. Scholars Day was February 7th. It went very well! We had a good turn out and it was nice meeting the students who got scholarships! Scholars Day starts at about 9:15 and then the students go to their different sessions. Some go to interviews and others go to collaborative discussions. Later, all of the students go on a tour of the school. Then, we all come together for lunch in the Student Union. We have speakers and that concludes Scholars Day!
Valentine's Day has come and gone. Different groups on campus sell different items during the week of Valentine's Day. Candy grams, homemade items, etc. were sold this year.
This month has also been Faculty and Staff Appreciation Month. Students are able to write Thank You notes to those who work on our campus. It is nice to be able to thank our faculty and staff!
Follies and Dad's Night are this weekend! Follies is held in the gym on Friday night. Each class comes up with a skit and performs it that night. One class wins a prize! Dad's Night is Saturday night. It is a father daughter date night. We have food, dancing, games, and a comedian! It's a lot of fun and I'm really excited about it!
Spring break is coming on quickly and so are midterms. Everything is due before Spring Break. After Spring Break, things will slow down again and then pick back up before the end of school. This school year has definitely flown by. I hope that everyone is doing well! Thanks for reading!

Beginning of February

It's been a crazy last few weeks! I've had a lot to do. Tests, projects, meetings, and the list goes on. However, that's all part of the college life! Last weekend, I got the opportunity to go to Converge with USC's Baptist Collegiate Ministry. Converge is the statewide Baptist Collegiate Ministry conference. I had an awesome time there and learned a lot. We had a great speaker and Rush of Fools was our worship leaders. It was nice to take a little bit of break from studying and just have fun!
Classes are going well. There is just a lot to do in them right now. College life can be stressful, but it is well worth it! I am learning so much here at Columbia College. I love that fact that I am becoming the well-rounded woman that I want to be!
There is always something going on campus. You won't be bored, that's for sure! Tomorrow is Scholars Day and we are looking forward to everyone that is coming! There are always meetings and events that go on during the week. Dad's Night is coming up as well as Follies! Get excited!

"Snow much fun!"

It has been a crazy week! We had a holiday off from school on Monday and special activities for Martin Luther King Jr. day were held. Then, we got snow on Tuesday!!!! It was so exciting because we hardly ever get snow here! Our classes were not cancelled, but at least we don't have to make up a day! Obama's inauguration was on Tuesday as well. There were places on campus in which you could go watch it if you didn't have class.
Anyway, we just finished the second week of school. Everyone is still trying to get back into the swing of things like being on a schedule and getting homework done. There are many things to look forward to for this semester. Dad's Night, Follies, Fun Day, Spring Formal, and for the seniors: graduation. I hope that everyone is doing well!

Back to School

Today was the first day of classes for the spring semester. Everyone is trying to make sure that they have the right books and that they know where to go. Some people are trying to figure out whether they want to drop a class or not. The stress of school is starting to come back, even though it's the first day. Professors always give a tentative class schedule so that you can know when projects are due, homework assignments, and test days. Seeing that schedule can be very overwhelming. In order for me not to get too overwhelmed, I have to take it one day at a time. It's also good to have someone to talk to. It really helps your stress go down. Reading these blogs may make you think that college is going to be extremely difficult. Well, to be honest, college is difficult and stressful, but it is also fun and exciting. There are also so many resources on campus to help you through it. Trust me, you can do it!
We found out today that Captain Sorell, who was part of our wonderful police staff, passed away on Monday and Mr. Oberly, who was a beloved math teacher, passed away this morning. It was shocking to hear that these men passed away. We will all miss them.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!"

So, December 12 was the last day of exams! It was a crazy week. People that lived on campus were trying to get everything packed up to leave for break as well as study for exams. Everyone was so excited to get home and be done for the semester. I know I was! Fall semester seems to be the harder semester and it doesn't go by as quickly as spring semester. After that last exam on December 12, we were all waiting for our grades to come in. I am very happy with my grades for the semester. I hope that everyone else is too! I also hope that everyone had a safe trip back home and that they are having a great break like me! Merry Christmas everyone!

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!"

Thanksgiving break was awesome! I got to spend time with my family and go Christmas shopping. It was needed. Now that Thanksgiving is over, Christmas time is here! I love Christmas! The radio stations play Christmas music and the Christmas specials are on TV. You get to put up the Christmas tree and go shopping for gifts. It's really hard to go back to school the Monday after Thanksgiving break. However, exams are next week and then we're done for the semester. Things are busier than ever: Christmas parties, studying for exams, and writing papers. Everyone is also trying to get prepared to go back home for the holidays. So, things are a bit crazy around here. Many people lose sleep and are getting sick. The thing to remember is that the stress of school will go away soon!

Giving Thanks...

Break is finally here! Everyone got to go home today to spend some well needed time with their families. Break lasts until Sunday. Then, we have a week of class and then a week of exams. After that, we have a break for a month! When you have six college courses, breaks are much needed. Breaks give us time to get away from campus and to spend time with our families. However, the work really piles up close to breaks because we have to make sure that we get everything done for the course. Papers, projects, and exams all seem to be occuring in the same week during this time. It is a stressful time, but we all know that we can get through it because we're almost done. Even though we have to do a lot of work, I know that doing it will help me get a better education. I thank Columbia College for giving me a good education so far and for giving me many opportunities. I hope that everyone has safe travels and has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Break is coming, break is coming!!!

So, Thanksgiving is exactly a week from today!!! Thanksgiving break starts on Tuesday and everybody gets to go home!! Then, we have one week of classes and then exams for a week. After that, we're off for a month! This time of the year gets crazy because there is so much going on, academically and cocurricular. Academically, professors decide to make papers and projects due before Thanksgiving. We're also trying to get ready for exams as well. However, there are many things going on with the groups on campus as well. Christmas parties, cooking decorating, and the tree lighting. I can't wait!! I can't stress how important it is to get involved on campus, but don't get too involved. Getting involved helps you in so many ways like making friends and enjoying something that you're passionate about. I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!!

Fall changes more than just leaves...

What a week it has been! The night before Election Day, the College Republicans and Young Democrats held a debate. It was very informing and interesting. The debaters discussed the issues in words that college students could understand. It was a short debate and around 50 people showed up. However, I do wish that more issues could have been discussed.
Mom's Day was yesterday. It was wonderful. Mom's Day began at 11 at the church on campus. We had a prayer, poem, and speaker at the church. The speaker was awesome. She said that Mom's have love, support, and wisdom. Mom's give us the roots so that we can have our wings later. She also said that wow turned upside down is mom. Then, we moved to the dining hall for lunch. We had chicken, rice, pasta, fruit salad, a salad bar, rolls, and desert. The food was delicious. Games followed after lunch. There was a Look-a-Like contest, Mom's Got Talent (where mom's could show off their talents), and What's in Mom's Purse? For that game, we got a list of things that we had to look for. Some items were safety pins, bleach pen, lip gloss, library card, etc. Mom's Day ended at 2 so that girls could do whatever else they wanted to do.
Everyone's counting down to Thanksgiving break now: 16 days! After Thanksgiving, we have 2 more weeks of school left and then a month off! All of us are so busy and we're always ready for breaks. We don't get them often and breaks are always appreciated!

After Fall Break Madness...

Fall break was a much needed break. However, it was way too short and I had so many things to do during fall break. As soon as Monday rolled around, I was swept up into the madness of six classes again. Tests and projects have come up already. I'm not the only student who gets stressed. Everyone gets stressed at some point during the semester. That's completely normal! To help relieve some stress, we have some fun activities to look forward to on campus. A debate between the Republicans and the Democrats, college groups on campus, is taking place on Monday. Unfortunately, we don't get Election Day off. A lot of people have to send in absentee ballots or vote after class. Anyway, Mom's Day is November 8!! Mom's Day is another one of Columbia College's fabulous traditions. It's a day where you just spend time with your mom. There's a speaker and then games later on. I'm sooo excited about it! Registration for next semester classes is happening right now too. Thanksgiving is coming up fast and then we have two more weeks of school left. Then, we have a month off, which is much needed. That's one of the best parts about college, we have longer breaks. Enjoy!

It's Finally Fall Break!!!

It is finally fall break!!! That's how you feel when midterms come around, especially when you have six classes. We don't get breaks from school that often. This our first break since Labor Day. Things get really crazy around midterm time. Everything starts to pile up. Suddenly, teachers make the deadlines for projects and papers on the same days. You also have to study for exams on top of all that. After midterms, things really start to calm down again until around final time. Once you make it through midterms, you can definitely make it through the semester. Thanksgiving break comes in about a month and then we have about two weeks left of school. Then, we're done with the semester!! Many people go home for fall break and spend time with their friends and family. Fall break is your time to get rest and catch up. Enjoy!!

Ludy Bowl!!!

Hello everyone!! The start to my sophomore year at Columbia College has been great! Ludy Bowl Week was last week and the theme was Battle of the Poles: Polar Bears v. Penguins. Ludy Bowl is one of Columbia College's fabulous traditions. We had different dress days: monday was pj day, wednesday was tacky day, thursday was school colors day, and friday was wear your team colors. We had a dance party, a movie night, craft night, etc. On the day of Ludy Bowl, we had tailgating, a parade, and then the game!! Ludy Bowl is basically our homecoming week. It began in 1955 to honor Lucille Godbold, who won a gold medal in the 1922 Olympics. She was a professor and supporter of the college. We've just kept it up. We have a powderpuff football game and the sophomores and juniors play against the seniors and freshmen. Ludy Bowl Week brings out the school spirit in us students and it helps bring the college together. It's our week to have fun together as a campus.
