Minor Requirements
By the end of the junior year, each student wishing to select a minor field from those departments offering a minor should do so in consultation with her/his advisor. Forms for declaring a minor are available in the Office of the Registrar. Since the College does not require a minor, the College is not responsible for ensuring that each student will be able to complete all of the minor requirements within select time period. A minor study can be selected from one of the following fields:

For American Studies Minor:

  • 18 semester hours

For Business Management Minor - non business majors only:

  • 15 hours must be completed. 9 of the 15 hours must be earned at Columbia College.

For Busines Marketing Minor - non business majors only:

  • 15 hours must be completed. 9 of the 15 hours must be earned at Columbia College.
For Communication Minor:
  • 15 semester hours in addition to COMM 100.
  • Required courses: COMM 210, 220, 240, and 6 semester hours selected from COMM 110, 200, 250, 270K, 280, 300,310, 320LS, 330, 340, 350, 360, 380, Theatre 107, and English 205.
  • No more than three semester hours of practica may count toward the minor.
For Computer and Information Science Minor- non CIS majors only
  • 18 semester hours including Computer and Information Science 110 and 111
  • 12 additional hours chosen from Computer and Information Science courses numbered 200 and higher. Mathematics 150 may count toward those 12 hours.

For Services to Children and Families:
  • 15 semester hours to include SOC221
  • 4 courses chosen from the following: POS 250 or SOC255, HIS 405, PSY459, PSY or SWK 312, PSY or SWK 314, SOC 310, 316, 318, or 320.

For Psychology

  • 18 semester hours in Psychology. REuired courses and 102
  • 15 additional hours of psychology electives numbered 200 or higher (excluding independent study and internship hours

For History:

  • 15 semester hours beyond the General Education requirements
For Religion Minor:
  • 12 semester hours in religion beyond the Humanities Core General Education requirements in religion. One course in philosophy may count toward the minor in religion.
