Initially, the CEL brought together four different programs – Career Services, Leadership Studies, General Education, and First Year Student Success Initiatives. By bringing together these different program areas, we could help students think intentionally about how success in the classroom connects with their professional goals and prepares them as future learners and leaders. We could actively challenge and support our students in their efforts to succeed, especially first-year students as they adjust to college-level work. We also put in place Student Engagement Mentors (STEMs) and Career Peers (CPs) , both upper-class peer mentors who are trained and available to work with students one-on-one in achieving their academic and career goals through engaging in campus life.

 

 

Today, the CEL has grown. In addition to the original four program areas, the CEL is now home to Contractual Studies, a personalized field of study that allows students to design a major around their unique goals and interests, and Service-Learning, integrating meaningful service experiences into academic courses.

 

 

The CEL continues to make an impact on both student success and retention at the college. We connect students to campus resources and link them with mentors committed to their success. We cultivate women leaders and jumpstart them on the path to academic and professional success. We show students how to become empowered to make their education work for them, showing them ways to synthesize the pieces of their education to make a difference not just in their own lives but also in the world around them. The C.E.L. is committed to student success- helping them envision their potential and working to make it happen.
