Originally named the Vera Young Thomas Memorial Library, this structure was built in 1922 and served as the College's first library. Upon completion of the J. Drake Edens Library in the 1960’s, the building became Alumnae Hall.
Alumnae Hall is the oldest building on campus, and was largely undamaged by both major fires that devastated other campus buildings. Construction was funded by a gift from the father and uncle of student Vera Young Thomas, who died shortly after the birth of her first child. "Vera Young Thomas Memorial Library" can still be seen etched above the building's main entrance, which faces the campus green.
The Office of Advancement and Office of Alumnae Relations are located in Alumnae Hall. In addition, special campus events and banquets are held in the Spears Parlor. Many items from the College’s colorful history are displayed in the Spears Parlor, including the campus doll collection, which receives a new doll from each graduating class. Each doll reflects the fashion sensibility of it’s time. Published works by alumnae are also on display, as well as antique furnishings and a grand piano, many of which were gifts to the College.
