Update: Monday, February 2 @ 4:00 PM

Dear Columbia College Community,

Columbia College will operate on a delayed schedule on Tuesday, February 3, with campus opening at 11:00 a.m.

Classes scheduled before 11:00 a.m. will move to e-learning. Students are encouraged to check Canvas and communicate with their individual instructors for specific course instructions. All in-person and online classes scheduled for 11:00 a.m. or later will proceed as usual. Employee report time is 11:00 a.m.

Employees who experience difficulty traveling to campus, or students who are unable to attend scheduled class times due to lingering winter weather conditions, are encouraged to contact their direct supervisor or individual instructor to discuss accommodations if needed.

Our facilities team worked throughout the weekend to clear walkways and address lingering ice from the recent winter weather. While conditions have improved, please continue to use caution when navigating campus walkways and roads, as some areas may still be slick.

A special thank you to our facilities, dining services, and CCPD teams who helped keep critical campus operations running during the weather event. We appreciate your koala spirit!

We will continue to monitor conditions and share updates if needed. Please use caution while traveling and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Columbia College

Update: Sunday, February 1 @ 2:30 PM

Dear Columbia College Community,

Due to ongoing hazardous road conditions, Columbia College will operate on an e-learning and remote-work schedule on Monday, February 2. All in-person classes and on-campus operations are suspended.

  • All classes will be conducted online. Faculty should use Canvas for instruction, and students are encouraged to check their Canvas courses regularly for updates and to communicate directly with instructors if accommodations or assistance are needed.
  • All employees are expected to work remotely during the campus closure. Faculty and staff should confirm access to necessary systems and materials. If internet access is unavailable, supervisors will direct alternate assignments as appropriate.
  • Campus services will be limited. Dining services will be open for brunch and dinner for students on campus, while other offices will be closed, including Edens Library.
  • Columbia College Police and Facilities staff will remain on campus. For emergencies, please contact Columbia College Police at 803-786-3333.
  • Athletics schedules are also affected. The men’s tennis match at home versus Belmont Abbey, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, has been postponed to a later date.

We will continue to monitor conditions and will share updates regarding Tuesday, February 3, as more information becomes available. As always, the safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our priority. Please stay safe.

Sincerely,

Columbia College

Update: Saturday, January 31 @ 2:20 PM

Dear Columbia College Community,

As we continue to monitor the forecast for potential wintry weather this weekend, we wanted to share a brief update on campus operations and what to expect in the days ahead.

All external events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday have been canceled, as have all athletic activities for the weekend, including practices and competitions. Event contacts will follow up directly with the next steps as needed.

Edens Library will be closed on Saturday, January 31, with updates regarding Sunday operations to follow as conditions develop. (Update 1/31 @ 2:20 PM: Edens Library will also be closed on Sunday, February 1.) Dining services will continue to provide brunch and dinner for students remaining on campus, and campus teams will be monitoring conditions closely throughout the weekend. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our top priority.

We are also keeping a close eye on weather conditions early next week. While no decision has been made regarding Monday, February 2, we will continue to evaluate conditions and share updates as soon as more information is available.

As a precaution, students leaving campus are encouraged to pack any technology or materials they may need if classes shift to e-learning on Monday. Faculty and staff are encouraged to gather any equipment or resources that would support remote teaching or work, should conditions require an adjustment to campus operations.

Please report power outages to the Columbia College Police Department at 803-786-3333, and report emergencies to CCPD or call 911. Continue to check the College website and social media channels for updates.

Thank you for your care and caution this weekend. Stay warm and stay safe.
