Dr. Younker, professor of exercise science and public health, grew up in Orlando, Florida. She earned her bachelor of science in exercise science from the University of North Florida. While at North Florida, Dr. Younker was a Division I track & field athlete competing in the sprinting events. She turned her passion for competitive running into a passion for exercise science and learning more about sport performance. Dr. Younker earned her master's of exercise science at the University of South Carolina before pursuing her Ph.D. in sports performance and physiology at East Tennessee State University. While earning her Ph.D., Dr. Younker was an assistant track and field coach and adjunct faculty for Milligan University.
Dr. Younker joined the Columbia College faculty in 2021 and serves as the Department Chair of Exercise Science and Public Health program. She teaches exercise science, kinesiology, exercise physiology, exercise prescription and testing, motor learning and development, and introduction to public health.
Dr. Younker's research interests are in sports performance. She has specifically looked at interactions between strength training and lower-limb asymmetries and performance in collegiate runners.
