Biography

Dr. Reggie Wicker, was born in Lexington, South Carolina and raised in the Pomaria section of Newberry County. He attended the public schools of Newberry County and graduated from Newberry High School in 1989. After graduation, he enlisted in the South Carolina Army National Guard and served for eight years. In 2004, he graduated from Newberry College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. He began his teaching career in 2004 as a fourth-grade teacher at Newberry Elementary School. In 2007, he was named Teacher of the Year for Newberry Elementary School and received his Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. At the end of the 2008-2009 academic year, Dr. Wicker became the Assistant Principal at Newberry Elementary School. In July of 2011, Dr. Wicker was promoted to Principal of Newberry Elementary School and served in that role for seven years. After serving as Principal, Dr. Wicker served as the Director of Elementary Education in Union County School District. He also served as the Coordinator for Special Projects in Richland County School District One. Dr. Wicker currently serves as the Director of Personnel for School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties. He is a member of St. Mark AME Church in Pomaria, S.C. He is the proud father of one daughter (Myesha) and three grandchildren (Chayce, Cyrie and Ca’Mari). His favorite thought is from General Colin Powell: “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”
