Grayson Newman, M.A.

Director of the Pearce Communication Center, Lecturer of English

Biography

Grayson Newman is Columbia College's Director of the Pearce Communication Center and a Lecturer of English.  In addition to teaching classes, Grayson’s role will function to support the PCC and its tutors, as well as writing practices across the disciplines at Columbia College.

Grayson earned her M.A. with a concentration in English and American Literature from the University of South Carolina in 2023.  Some of her primary interests include female representation in classical literature, Writing Center practices and pedagogies, and rhetoric and composition, particularly how it relates to First-Year English.

Prior to stepping into her new role, Grayson served as an Adjunct Professor of English for Columbia College and UofSC for 3 years.  In this position, Grayson discovered her passion for teaching First-Year English.  She believes in inviting students to explore the writer within themselves, something that is arguably one of their greatest assets.  Her dedication in working with students comes with unlocking that writer, and pushing students to see not just the function and essentiality of writing, but the joy in it as well.

When Grayson is not on campus, she enjoys exploring the Columbia scene with her family.  She is an avid reader—and often has her head in a book—and a hardcore moviegoer.  Grayson also enjoys baking, and is always looking for new recipes to experiment with in her kitchen.
