It is with deep sadness that we share with you the passing of Marlena Myers ’64. Marlena has been a strong supporter of the College, devoting much of her life to working with our Alumnae to benefit our students.

Marlena Myers has an impressive list of accomplishments and awards: Medallion Recipient, Distinguished Service Award, Alumnae Council President, Board of Trustees member, just to name a few. However, it was not these accomplishments that defined her or made her recognizable to others. Marlena worked tirelessly to better all the communities she was a part of by raising funds and awareness to various issues. Her dedication to the education of women was clear in her ability to make lasting relationships with donors and students.

Julie King, Director of Alumnae Relations remembers Marlena, "So much sadness fills my heart with the passing of Marlena Myers. She was such a shining light in so many people’s lives and brought so much joy to everyone around her. We admired her character and passion for Columbia College. Marlena will certainly be missed, but her legacy will live on for many years." The family will receive friends at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Shandon United Methodist Church, with visitation following the service in Wesley Fellowship Hall. A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Marlena R. Myers Scholarship Fund at Columbia College, 1301 Columbia College Drive, Columbia, SC 29203; Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center, 303 East Richardson Avenue, Summerville SC 29483, or any of the other wonderful organizations listed above to which she devoted her time and energy. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com.
