Register for Summer Orientation

Get prepared for your academic journey ahead. During Summer Orientation & Registration (S.O.A.R), you'll become an official Columbia College student by registering for classes, learning about campus housing, and getting your college ID and campus mailbox information. Your parents are also encouraged to spend the day with us and can participate in special sessions tailored to them. An all-you-can-eat lunch buffet will be provided for you and up to two guests.

Orientation also provides the unique opportunity to get to know your classmates as well as upper-class orientation leaders who will guide you on campus. If you're a transfer student, you'll receive important transfer information and have the opportunity to meet key campus administrators. Participating in orientation is the best way to explore your new home.

2019 S.O.A.R Dates

New First-Year Students must attend one session.

  • Thursday, June 13
  • Friday, June 14
  • Friday, July, 12

Note: First-Year Students and Transfer Students also must attend Fall Orientation in August. This orientation aligns with the beginning of classes and supports students as they move in, set up email accounts, finalize their financial aid, and so on.

You'll need your student ID# and password to log in. This information was included in your S.O.A.R. orientation mailing. If you are having difficulties logging in, please call 803.786.3856 between 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

    Register Today

    Before S.O.A.R.

Please complete the following checklist items before attending S.O.A.R. We encourage you to plan ahead as priority scheduling is reserved for students who complete testing early.

    1. Required Placement Exams

    1. A three-part math placement test (80-minute online test)
    2. A four-part modern language placement test (50 - 60-minute online test)

You’ll need to take your math and language (French or Spanish) placement exams in order to be advised and receive your class schedule. These tests must be completed before students can register for classes. Priority scheduling for S.O.A.R. will be given to students who complete both tests by Monday, May 13, 2019. A one-paragraph English writing assessment (25 minutes) will be administered at S.O.A.R.

All first-year and transfer students are required to take the English, mathematics, and modern language (French or Spanish) placement tests available on Koala Connection.

You may take your online placement tests at any time. If you need help logging in, you can call our information technology help desk during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) at 803.786.3856.

If you plan on paying for your books using financial aid, you'll need to have completed a book voucher prior to ordering your course materials. You can access your voucher on our student portal, Koala Connection - on the student tab, under tuition accounts tasks.

All students enrolled at Columbia College must present a valid Immunization Certificate that has been dated, signed, or stamped by a health care professional.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. If your parents want access to your financial aid information, you'll need to submit a form allowing us to share your records with them. It's not required, but we recommend it.

Access FERPA forms on Koala Connection, under the orientation tab.
