Biography

Dr. Barb Russo is a 25 yr. veteran of the fire and emergency services, having served as both a volunteer and a career professional. She was named the University of Mississippi's first-ever Emergency Manager in 2016 and prior to that held the position of Division Chief of Training and Standards with the City of Jacksonville (NC) Fire Department. Most recently she led the master's degree in Emergency Management at Brevard College and prior to that the Fire and Emergency Services Administration program at Fayetteville State University. Her areas of research include race and gender in the fire and emergency services. Dr. Russo holds a PhD from Oklahoma State University in Fire and Emergency Management Administration.
